A unique opportunity for NIH small business grantees

Through America's Seed Fund, NIH awards small business grants and offers a wide range of support to life science entrepreneurs. Even with all of this early-stage funding and support, you may need follow-on funding and strategic partnerships to get your product onto the market. That's why NIH has Entrepreneurs in Residence and product development experts to help you connect with investors and corporate partners.

Overview of the Company Showcase Program

Grantees can use part of their award to support registration and travel for investor and partnering events. NIH's innovator support team works with you to evaluate your company's stage of development, clarify your immediate and mid-range business goals, and identify event(s) where you can make strong connections. Once you know where you are going (and when), SEED's team can help you prepare for a successful events.

NIH's innovator support team is experienced in helping both early and late-stage companies understand how to build businesses, talk with investors and strategic partners, and communicate product development milestones - aka value inflection points. One on one conversations with members of our team often lead to increased clarity about activities needed to achieve development milestones, develop and protect intellectual property, and project pricing (cost of goods, payment levels, markgins, and return on investment timelines). Information about who is investing in your space, the size of deals, and data required to support due diligence may also be part of these calls. At the end of a series of pitch coaching calls (typically 2-3 calls with action items and messaging revision between calls), CEOs or business development leads are ready to deliver a solid pitch (formally or informally) and hold follow-on converations with potential partners/investors. Additionally, SEED developed templates and educational materials to support its portfolio's investment and networking activities.

Eligibility criteria: To request coaching, companies must have had active NIH SBIR or STTR funding (grant or contract) within the 24 calendar months preceding the event they intend to attend.
